Happy Easter to you all!

2010-04-06

Here in Melbourne we feasted on Chocolate Easter eggs over the long weekend. It is a common Easter activity amongst Melburnians.

I recently finished another unit with Oxford University titled ‘Writing Lives’ and I will be starting a unit on William Shakespeare with Oxford University in May of this year. It is a dream of mine to visit Oxford University one day.

I also spent my time tutoring students who are finishing their high school certificate in English language and English Literature. I get to read a lot of interesting books for the tutorials! I am currently reading ‘Year of Wonders’ by Geraldine Brooks for one of my students and I just finished studying ‘Othello’ by Shakespeare for another.

The story is about a young Aboriginal Australian woman who is in love with a womanizing football player. She knows that he is probably never going to change for her but she can’t help the way she feels. She works as a successful curator at an art gallery and when the opportunity arises to go to New York to take up a fellowship at a gallery there she takes it reluctantly, knowing that she will always be an Aussie girl. When she gets to New York, Lauren meets all sorts of handsome men who offer to take her out and show her what a real relationship should be like. Along the way we, as readers, learn a lot about life and love through the eyes of the main character Lauren.

I really enjoyed the novel and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about Aussie culture and anyone who is interesting in chick lit more broadly.

It made me want to visit New York! Maybe I will get to go there one day!

Do you like to travel? If so, write to me and tell me about your adventures. I would love to hear from you!
