I have had many great moments--the birth of my children, my marriage to my beautiful wife, reaching Tierra del Fuego after many months of overland travel--but perhaps my greatest moment was one much humbler and totally unexpected: being with my mother when she passed away. We were very close and watching my mother die with such courage and dignity taught me things that I could not have learned any other way, I think, and I am very grateful to have had that experience.
