My own flat!

2014-10-24

Last weekend I moved into my own flat - it is the first home that I have bought. It has taken a long time to save the money, the UK is very expensive compared to the rest of Europe. I am very happy to have it.

It is a ground floor flat with a small garden. I was lucky that I had my brother to help me move all of my things in. We did it all in one day; we worked from 8am to 7pm, but we finished everything and could take Sunday to rest.

In Britain, there are many bills that come with buying a house or flat, not just the mortgage. There are the utilities - gas, electricity, water and phone. There is the council tax, which must be paid for the rubbish collectors and for local services, such as libraries and schools. I must have insurance for the building and for my possessions. Finally - very important for me - the internet!

They say that moving is one of the most stressful things that you can do in life. I believe this, it has not been easy to get everything right - for the furniture to come on the right day, for my address to be changed over with everyone, for the utilities to be registered.

One thing has gone wrong - there is a delay on my sofa, it cannot come until the end of November. So, I have to buy a cheap, temporary sofa, just to have somewhere to sit. My mother says that I am lucky that this is my biggest problem!

I wonder what it is like to move in Japan?

I hope you like the pictures; I have before and after for the living room and bedroom and one of my lovely new kitchen - the fridge/freezer and washer/dryer are hidden behind the cupboard doors.
