All in all, the project took three months to complete, with the contractor going 2 weeks over the deadline. It was not easy living in the basement during this time (as there was only one room) and buying take-out food because the kitchen was out of commission, but the result was well worth it:

We decided to update the home from the outside as well, so we added the red gables. Also, we decided to add a white bandboard between the gables and body of the house.
