The Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens

2013-07-22

This week I visited the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens in Washington, DC. It is just a few miles from my home, but it was the first time I have ever been there.

These gardens used to be on private property. When the owner became old, she sold the gardens and wetlands around her home to the National Park Service for a very low price. It was her wish to preserve the water gardens and the beautiful flowers in them in perpetuity.

Good words to know!

Wetlands-a type of terrain that is marshy or damp. Wetlands have special kinds of plants, birds, and aquatic life.
Wetland preservation is very important to maintain the balance of nature.

in perpetuity-it means forever, but is used in more formal or legal ways
