Oxford Summer Schools

As a committed enthusiast of lifelong learning I try to make it out to Oxford once a year for their Summer Schools.

These two novels are concerned with the spiritual and intellectual development of their main characters. Stephen Dedalus is a young man who will turn away from his Irish Catholic upbringing to favour a life of intellectual, artistic and sensual pursuits and Elaine Risley is an artist who will return to her childhood home to try to gain closure on her childhood experience of bullying and trauma.

Both novels delve into universal experiences of hopelessness, hopefulness and the yearning for belonging.

While I was at Oxford this year I also went to the Sheldonian Theatre to watch and listen to a beautiful performance carried out by two musicians. The experience was unforgettable and if you ever do get to Oxford make sure you take the opportunity to visit the Sheldonian Theatre I am sure you will love it just as much as I did.
