My visit to the Japanese Ambassador's house

2013-03-26

I was invited to the Japanese Ambassador's house last week to meet high school students from Tohoku who are visiting the United States through the Kizuna Project.

More than 400 students were there. They gave a presentation about the current situation and recovery efforts in Japan following the earthquake and tsunami that occurred on March 11, 2011.

It was very uplifting and I was glad to see the United States and Japan working together to help the people of Tohoku rebuild their towns.

I enjoyed talking to the students and practicing my Japanese. They will tour Washington, D.C. for a few days and will travel to Chicago and Seattle as well.

I think organizations like the Kizuna Project are doing important work promoting cultural exchange.
