“Spring”

When I was asked to think of a phrase for students seasonal idioms immediately sprang to mind.
We often use "spring" to mean sudden and vigorous action. For example, "The firefighters heard the station alarm and sprang into action".

We can also use "spring" to mean a surprise you don't want!
"When he asked me to take a vacation with him I was so happy.
I can't believe he sprang the cost of the airplane tickets on me!".

「ふっと思い付く、心に浮かぶ、ハッとひらめく」という意味の他に 起こってほしくないサプライズにも使われるのですね。
