Dumbarton Oaks Park

2013-06-06

Dumbarton Oaks Park in Georgetown is a public park in Washington, D.C. The park is 27 acres of forest and pasture. There is even a stream running through it. It used to be private property, but in 1940 it was donated it to the public. Since then, the park has deteriorated due to lack of funds.

I still think it’s a very pretty park, but a lot of the paths have been eroded by rainwater. The stone walls, which now over 70 years old, are crumbling, too. I would like to see the park restored one day, but it would be expensive.

(a) pasture = ground covered in grass
(b) fund = a source of money
(c) to erode = to wear away
