Mountain Mini-break

2011-06-27

Already summer here in the Washington DC metro area has been hotter than normal.

To cool off a bit, we spent two days driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway. This is a beautiful and protected road that runs through North Carolina and Virginia.

Because it is only a two-lane road, and very curvy and winding, the speed limit is about 45 mph on average, so the drive is leisurely and relaxing. You can hike and camp, or stop at some wineries or little farms along the way.

One pretty little town near the Blue Ridge Parkway is Blowing Rock, North Carolina. While we were there, we took a picture of this flower planter, I thought it was charming.

What are you doing this summer to stay cool?
