The London 2012 Summer Olympics 2

2012-08-14

Well, we are over half way through the Games and they have been very successful so far. The Olympic venues have lived up to expectations; the atmosphere at the athletics is great - even the weather is behaving. But when you have Usain Bolt to watch, it would be!

British athletes are having a mixed week - Jessica Ennis won her much expected Gold medal in the Hepthalon and Nicola Adams won a first-ever women's boxing Gold medal for Britain that no-one was expecting. Andy Murray beat Roger Federer to get Olympic gold in the tennis, exactly 4 weeks after he lost to him at the Wimbledon final - it was even the same court so well done, Andy! My nephews and their friends were watching him, cheering all the way, they got up and danced when he won. We realised that they have rearranged the British National Anthem, so when it plays at the medal ceremonies it sounds very strange; I didn't know they were allowed to do this, they have taken out the best part!

Unfortunately, Tom Daly and Dai Greene, our other big medal hopes, did not manage to win - but just getting to an Olympic final is a great achievement. This should not be forgotten by the people who are looking to see if the Olympics are good value for money - the target is 84 medals in total for this games; so far we have 57. Fingers crossed we reach this target...

I like to listen to the announcers in the stadiums, they are volunteers that have given up their time freely to help and they are very funny when they talk to the crowd. They talk about people they can see with big smiles or want a cheer from those that travel on the London Underground - but not the Central Line as that has delays!

I can't wait to see what happens next - and what Brazil will do at the Closing Ceremony...
